School Fayre

The BBNF will have a stand at the Brookwood School Fayre on Saturday 24 June 2017.

Members of the Management Committee will be in attendance and will be able to answer questions on our progress so far.

Woking Borough Council has asked the BBNF to help decide on a name for the new Country Park north of the Basingstoke Canal. People will have an opportunity to have their say.

We will also be asking people for their views on open spaces in the Neighbourhood Area.

Please pop along and say hello.

Brookwood Lye Road Petition

Following the hugely successful petition raised by the BBNF to demand that WBC deals with the planning breaches occurring at Five Acres, the Council has instantly taken action to rectify. It’s a shame it required such an effort from the BBNF to force the Council to enforce the law and follow a common sense approach.

At the most recent Planning Committee on 27 September, item 5f dealt with the breaches. You can read the document here:

A supplementary paper was also tabled with item 5f about the BBNF petition. That can be viewed here:

The Planning Committee resolved to take enforcement action and prosecute the land owners for the breaches. A three month window of opportunity to comply was agreed.

The situation at Five Acres has improved substantially over the previous few weeks, and it is hoped the Council will not allow this situation to arise again.

Brookwood Lye Road Petition Received

A letter has been received from the Council confirming that they have received a petition from the BBNF containing over 600 signatures.

The letter confirms the petition will be reviewed in accordance with the Council’s Petition Policy.

We assume that means it will come to the next full Council meeting which is 20th October 2016. As soon as we know, we’ll let the membership know.

If you never completed a questionnaire and wish to do so, you can find it on the Questionnaire tab. We are still keen for feedback and views from anyone living or working in the area.

Questionnaire Results and New Chair

Following the BBNF meeting on Tue 2nd Feb, the Forum team have compiled the results of the second Questionnaire which show a good indication of how residents feel. Here’s the summary for Transport, Traffic & Parking:

1. 94% want steps taken to reduce congestion at Brookwood crossroads.
(a) 71% think re-routing the A324 along Cemetery Pales would assist in achieving that aim.
(b) 89% consider pedestrian and cycling access to Brookwood Station from Bridley and Pirbright should be provided through the Cemetery. The provision of cycle parking on both sides of the station is also suggested.

2. 88% are keen to reduce congestion at Pirbright Tunnel.
(a) 77% support improving the traffic light phasing to include traffic exiting from Brunswick/Bisley Camp Road. However it is pointed out that such changes might create more of a rat run and increase congestion.

The BBNF team would like to thank Kevin Davis for his work with the Forum in taking it from a concept to reality and being an effective councillor on our behalf. Kevin will be working towards representing residents in the new ward areas including “Heathlands”. The Forum chairmanship has been passed to Mark Craven, a Brookwood resident since 1988.

Second Questionnaire

The BBNF is extremely pleased to have reached a key milestone with the publishing and distribution of the second, more detailed questionnaire.

A lot of work has gone into analysing the results of the original questionnaire published this time last year to devise a number of aims and possible solutions to meet some of those aims.

Please take time to fill one in and you can ensure your voice will be heard. Further copies can be found in the Post Office or alternatively call 01483 488109 and we’ll get a copy out to you. You can also download a PDF od the questionnaire from the following link to print out yourself.

Prize Draw Results

At midday today, the questionnaire prize draw took place. Over 416 questionnaires have been received up to this point, and after removing those from the committee and immediate families the three questionnaires randomly chosen in Brookwood Club were:

1st A Salter (£50 M&S voucher)

2nd N M Stephens (£25 M&S voucher)

3rd L Revitt (£10 M&S voucher)

Well done to those individuals and thank you very much to everyone who has responded and filled in a questionnaire.

There is much analysis work to be done, and we expect to publish some initial feedback before Christmas.

On Tuesday 28th October, Woking District Jamboree Scouts will be delivering two copies of the questionnaire to every residential property in the Neighbourhood Area. Additional copies will be kept at the Brookwood Post Office, extra copies may be delivered on request, or finally it can be downloaded from this site, printed out and filled in.

For questionnaires delivered, a return envelope is included. Please drop it off at the Brookwood Post Office or post it back if that is more convenient.

Alternatively, the Jamboree Scouts will be sweeping through Brookwood again on Friday 31 October morning collecting any questionnaires that have been left on door steps. For each questionnaire returned, the Scouts will receive a bounty.

Copies of the questionnaire will also be delivered to businesses in the area giving everyone a chance to have their say.

A prize draw will be held on 30 November. All completed questionnaires will be included in the draw and M&S vouchers will be awarded for the first three randomly chosen questionnaires.

As a population, we have never before been given this opportunity to directly have a say in how we wish to see our area move forward. Please fill in the form and send it back.
